11 November: the sloped path is complete, and awaiting new railings. Landscapers begin work today to plant up the centre and surrounding areas. We are on course to finish the project by the end of the month.
4 July: internally, most of the wiring for the new lights is now in, and we await the delivery of the light fittings. The cement render used on the chancel walls is being stripped off (it traps moisture, which led to problems with damp), and will be replaced with a lime plaster that will allow the stone to breathe.
Externally, the steps have been removed, and in the porch, the ledger stone has been carefully taken up (it will be put back once other work on the porch is completed).
May 22nd: Work is well underway now. Internally, new wiring is being put in for the lights. Externally, the front churchyard has been cleared, and excavations for the new sloped path have begun. So far these have revealed a partially-collapsed brick vault and some buried gravestones. The archaeologist is keeping a close eye on proceedings, as the contractors investigate the route of the new path.
May 4th: Work is due to start on Tuesday (7 May) for the entrance project and to install new lighting. While this is going on, access to the church will be for services only (access via Free School Lane Monday-Saturday, and via the Corpus side gate on Sundays). Updates on the building project will be posted here.
